Q: Describe a pop singer you like.
A: I’d like to talk about Ken. I first came across him when I had just turned 14 years old. My brother was raving about him and had just bought a cassette(盒式磁带) by U2, which is the band Ken sings for. I had never heard of him before, but my brother thought he was the bee’s knees(顶尖的人或事).
I really like his music because he has such a distinct voice. It’s a bit rough( [rʌf] 粗(糙)的 ) but full of soul. In my view, he’s such an expressive singer and what’s more, I think his lyrics are not the typical empty and meanlingless pop lyrics, they have a strong messages and a for deep feeling of spirituality which is quite unusual, but refreshing, in the world of pop music.
I used to look up to him as a kid because he was so cool and fashionable, and teenagers like to idolise(注意: idol,类似于 symbol到symbolise) singers, right, especially out-going, lead singers. But I still admire his music and the active role he plays in trying to promote peace and social justice. As well as the fact that he is still singing and performing at the ripe ([raɪp]) old age of 60.
